Trust Is A 2-Way Street: You want my what?

You want my what?!

A word about ARC’s and Kindle email addresses

Trust is a 2 way street

Argue the point if you want, but I’ll always feel my risks if I were to share this privacy are way worse than an author's risk of plagiarism or pirating when insisting on this protocol.

I understand the monies lost in these two “P” evils. However, my kindle AND Amazon accounts and everything they can be used for are at bangs1

A couple of years ago Amazon plugged a hole in Kindle's security after eBooks containing malicious links allowed unsuspecting users' kindle and Amazon accounts to be accessed. The kindle owners had emailed innocent looking but malicious eBooks to their device.

Recently that security breach has been reported again with the newest kindle models.

Let’s face it, where there’s a will there will always be a way! With any device or system, when one hole is blocked, another is found. The recent hack of Sony has publicized an ongoing problem with electronic security that normally doesn’t get publicity unless it’s a mass celebrity cell phone hack and leak – or a major entity like Sony.

Let’s say my amazon account is hacked by someone posing to be an author, or some book formatter who took advantage of an unsuspecting well-known author. The hacker then has access to my actual amazon email. Thus my amazon account where they can post unscrupulous items or even buy if my saved credit card allows it. They also get access to my email contacts, any business info in my email.

In addition, what happens to hacked accounts? They're closed down. So I then lose all 800 of my paid books. Even if they let me transfer my books to my new secure account, I lose all my highlights and notes. But it isn’t a guarantee that I get to transfer my books to a new account.

I understand authors worry over plagiarism and pirate sites. But asking bloggers and beta readers to trust you because you don't trust them is not the solution.

The evil individuals who steal another's hard work will simply rip it right off reading devices—it’s easy enough. I’m no pirate, plagiarizer, or thief. But one thing I do know is, if there’s a will, there’s a way.

So, I'm sorry. No to even my favorite authors who offer ARC’s only through direct email to kindles. I'll buy the book—as I always do anyway if I love the ARC. Only difference is I’ll be reviewing on my own time and not on release day.

“The thunderous storm that he is intensifies and I'm about to beg him for this.”

The Ballerina I've had plenty of practice being graceful, but he has my heart tripping over my pointe shoes. I've conditioned myself to rely on nobody else and I won't start now. I'll push back as hard as I can. However, he seems to be determined on pulling down the wall I use to separate myself from others. The Storm The primal need I have for her is deeper than any I’ve experienced before. My world has shifted in more ways than one, and I’m not going to stand around and be held hostage where I don’t belong. This stand alone series starts off with the return of Russell Harper to the hometown he hates. The book is now available for pre-order for only .99 cents.

Home was the last place he wanted to be.

Single father, Russell Harper, would do anything for his troubled nine-year-old daughter Miranda, including returning to the suffocating small Wyoming town he fled at eighteen. Meeting up with childhood friend, licensed counselor Emily Zane, helps father and daughter come to terms with their new life. When the past thunders into town, threatening to destroy everyone it its path, the Harpers could lose everything.

Home was the only place she could truly breathe.

Emily Zane left Harper’s Rock, Wyoming as fast as she could, for the city life she’d always dreamed of. When circumstances take away what she holds dear, Harper’s Rock offers the safety and shelter she needs to heal. A chance meet up with her childhood friend, restaurateur Russell Harper and his troubled little girl, renews her confidence in her abilities. But when his past comes bearing down, it threatens to take everything she holds dear…again.

As soon as Miranda was on her way, Logan and Emily climbed into his SUV and headed for the lake cabin. As they arrived, the back side of the home was deserted. They quickly ran around to the front where the coroner’s van was pulling away, followed by an ambulance without its lights on.

“Oh no,” Emily whispered. Her heart was beating so fast. She couldn’t breathe. She was going to throw up. “Russell!” she screamed. “No! Russell!” It was Daniel all over again. Only she still loved Russell. But Daniel had died because of her, so the pain of his death had been just as excruciating.

Logan grabbed her so she wouldn’t flee into the middle of the crime scene. “Calm down. It’ll be okay.”

“I’m right here, Em,” Russell said stoically as he stepped out from behind a police vehicle.

A whimper escaped her as she pulled away from Logan to run to her boyfriend. He caught her in his arms.

“Oh my God! What happened? Are you okay?” she questioned, desperately checking his torso for any signs of injury.

“I’m okay,” he murmured, pulling her close again. “I didn’t get a scratch on me.”

“What happened, big brother?” Logan asked, stepping up to them.

Will also be available at Barnes and Noble on release day, December 15th! And stay tuned for the other two books in the series - Logan's Leap and Dylan's Desire.

Falling in love with Jack was easy, but there is nothing easy about staying in love with Jack Storm, arrogant rock star, while settling into a new life in Los Angeles.
The story of rock couple Jack and Marissa continues.

For Jack, Marissa and Tristan in his life changes his outlook. He feels needed. He welcomes the responsibility of a family. He embraces the love and companionship. Quickly, he whisks his son and the intriguing woman he had never forgotten to his home in LA.

To Marissa, her future seems as mysterious as dusk’s shimmering shadows beneath the surface of the luxurious guitar shaped pool. There is no doubt this could be her dream house, her dream life with the man she loves. Not so dreamy is all she is beginning to see packaged with him. The crazy hours of a very active life. The garbage behind the glam. Mostly, a moody and presumptuous rock star whose public persona is opposite of the sweet musician she fell for.

This full sized novel can stand alone, but is greatly enhanced by reading Eye of the Storms.

When the next text came, I jumped in excitement.
Pulling up now. Meet me outside?
3:01 AM
Hitching my robe tighter, I started from the room in stocking feet. On a whimsy, I stopped by the guest room for, and pushed my feet into, the pair of shoes I’d worn to his drop party.Storm's Eye
Mindful of my heels and my excitement, I carefully descended the stairs even though I wanted to run. As I neared the landing, I clutched the bannister with both hands and practically leaped the last two stairs.
Tearing the front door open, I pulled up short upon seeing it. In the shadows of the night, Jack was leaning against the red Lamborghini limo.
He was even hotter than he ever had been, if that were possible. Maybe it was because the fantasy limo was his backdrop. Maybe he exuded an overload of charisma from being on tour. Maybe it was because I had not seen him in more than a week.
All I knew for sure was seeing him sucked the breath into my chest before it whooshed out again as if I had been sucker punched.
Although his features were shadows from the driveway lights, I could feel his heated perusal. His arms had been crossed over his chest, and they fell to his side as he vaulted the stone steps, two at a time, toward me.
A steady breeze was blowing, and I twisted my head so that my face was clear of my hair. Holding my robe as I continued down to him, I enjoyed the tingle buzzing through my body as I watched his hair billow about.
We crushed together, and wound together. I breathed him in as my lips moved against his chest and clamped my arms tightly around him as he nearly cut off my airflow with his own embrace.Storm's Eye
My feet left the ground, and for a second, I was spinning before he set me down and our lips came together. The fiery kiss raged, we melded tight together, and our hands roamed, leaving tingling trails.
“What are you wearing, Mariss?” Jack reclaimed his tongue long enough to speak, but was back to kissing me before I could answer.
His hands had inched up the silky robe. Beneath the fabric, they alternately groped and caressed any skin left exposed by the lingerie. Fingers glided down, toying with the stockings.
Taking a step back, I made one of the boldest moves ever in my life. Especially considering this house was prone to tree lurkers, and there was surely a driver in the limo.
In one smooth motion, I had the silken belt untied, and my body shrugged from the silky shroud. Neither of us took notice of the robe catching the wind like a kite, or if it landed.
I was too busy glowing beneath Jack’s heated gaze, and Jack was too busy stroking me from head to toe with those dark eyes.
     “Holy shit, Mariss… Just…holy fuckin’ shit…”
He swooped and I was in his arms. I didn’t notice we were going down the stairs, instead of up, until I was settled in the limo.
Jack was immediately on me for another one of those mind-bending kisses. When his lips left mine, I melted into the seat, enjoying the friction of his hands over my skin, and his wandering kisses.
We were so sex starved that it was barely five minutes later when his hopeful inquiry was a pleasurable mummer against sensitive skin, “Please tell me it’s been long enough?”
     “It’s been long enough.”
In response, for the first time since that shower five years ago, there was no scramble for a tiny foil packet. Actually, I was three days short of the recommended time for the pills in the little plastic case to get in my system, but I wasn’t worried.
His unrestricted pleasure came in a loud groan and curse, then sweet seductive words. Every movement was soon pleasurable beyond words… The feeling of him completely coming inside me for the first time—unbelievable.

#Throwbackthursday Books

My Throwback Thursday book this week is Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. This book lured me into the world of vampires, and I've never come back!

The story is told in an 'interview' between Louis, a depressed vampire over 200 years old who has seen much hardship and 'the boy' who was intended to be a victim. The tale is set in New Orleans, Louisiana and Paris, and entwines around the relationship of vampires Armand, Louis, Claudia, and Lestat who is seemingly present in each scene even when not physically a part of it.

Lestat de Lioncourt is no sparkly vampire yet he is still intriguing and in a dangerous way loveable.
Armand is a mentor figure Louis looks to for understanding of who he is.
Claudia the child with a scheming adult mind is haunting.
Louis in telling a story meant to show a mere human the horrors of vampire life opens our eyes to the tragic beauty of living for centuries.

There are things that after many years I look back on in this series and wonder about. One of them being the massive body account amassed nightly in New Orleans as in the book Louis is the only vampire of the 3 in New Orleans not feeding off humans. And then mostly, I wonder how they lived in some areas so long-i think it's mentioned 50 years-without aging being a factor, especially since Claudia is physically 6! But none of that takes away from the beauty of the writing.

I highly recommend this book even for someone who doesn't intend to read the entire series. After all, it was first written without plans for a series, and in itself is an amazing piece of work.

Before the kindle generation it was common to wait more than a year between releases, and I did, going crazy for each new book in The Vampire Chronicles. The Vampire Chronicles began with Interview of the Vampire in 1976 and has spanned more than 30 years with Prince Lestat the newest in the series released in October of this year!

So what's on your 'Back in the Day' reading list?

A Throwback Thursday Moment

Crack Books

Everyone can look back and think of that one book or series that was their book crack. The books that made them a junkie for reading. For me, that series was Trixie Belden. While all of my friends were going crazy over Sweet Valley High and Goosebumps, I was curled up in a beanbag chair next to my mom's library of books with a Trixie Belden read in my hand. The pages were beginning to yellow, the spines creaked, and the smell was musty. But none of that mattered as I remained engrossed in whatever shenanigans Trixie and her BFF Honey Wheeler were up to. Can't forget the hero of the series, Trixie's first crush, Jim Frayne--the penniless orphan who transformed into Christian Grey. Well in wealth anyway. Can't speak for fetishes, guess we'd need to ask a grown up Trixie! At least I hope somewhere after the series was over that Trixie and Jim had an elaborate wedding, an exotic honeymoon, and rode off into the sunset!

So looking back, what was your book crack?

No musty smells, the brand new paperback editions!

I may be one-clicking just to cure this nostalgia.
